A sunrise is always a nice place to start
This was a fantastic sunrise
Sharon reading in the front
On the first of March I saw a rocket launch Atlas V NOAA's Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-T, an advanced national weather observatory to improve the accuracy of life-saving forecasts in the Western U.S., Alaska and Hawaii, though it took me a few moments to realize what I was watching
We visited Ponce Inlet to see the Lighthouse and a sunset
We went to a place called Flagler for some shopping
and ice cream
This photo was from the 11th floor of our condo building. A sunset
The next day Katryna would be flying back home
Here we're waiting for her COVID results so she can get on her flight
I was allowed to go with her to her gate since she is only 13 years old
Did I ever mention that Sharon is my cup of tea?
On the morning of the 9th Mar we went to Apollo Beach to see if I can get some pictures of a shuttle launch While we were waiting, Sharon was looking for shells for the granddaughters. Did I fail to mention that there are very few shells in Daytona Beach when compared to Myrtle Beach?
At 8:40am we had shuttle launch. I had a few other photos but you get the idea of what we saw. I identified some mistakes I made during this photo experience and I hope to correct them for next year. Next year though I intend to go to Cape Kennedy Space Center during one of the launches.
During our stay Sharon received a nice gift from Milli Jewett (A USA friend from Maine). This will keep Sharon very warm during some cold spells. Don't mind Sharon's hair. The wind was really blowing that day.
From 9 - 23 March we had Steve visiting. He landed in Daytona Beach. Here he is seen arriving with someone he met on the plane. This person is here for the Daytona Bike week (which is actually two weeks)
Then we visited the lighthouse...which ended up being closed by the time we got there. I'll visit it next year (2023).
We played some shuffle board-yes I won
We even argued about this rock being in or out...if it touches the line-it doesn't count. It touches so I won!!
During our walks, the war in Ukraine is on everyone's mind as we notice the USA flag and Ukrainian flag
The great thing here is Steve and Sharon would go for a walk and then hop in the heated pool to "refresh" themselves.
He can be taught. Steve coming back from his walk and cleaning his feet.
It was nice and there were days---not so great but we still went out and enjoyed the water
or just lazed around the front porch reading a book
Or sitting by the pool. In one of the pictures you'll notice how the sun was beginning to hid behind the condo and chairs were being huddled in the far cornors to get in the sun
Yes, the Leighton's were tanning. Alright, I didn't leave my wife go down there alone ;)
Yes we also took him to Crabby Joe's....the title fitted him rather well
Don't believe him...it wasn't that big
It was nice though that you could sit in the sun and watch the beach, lifeguards and beach goers doing their thing
Steve took a dip in the ocean. Sharon in hesitant to go since she hurt her shoulder. She said she would only feel confident if someone like Matthew or Thomas were there to lift her up. lol
Next up to the 11th floor for a view of the sunset
I don't know about you-the reader-but the moon interests me. I find it so fasinating.
Steve was trying real hard to get a tan
Sharon is trying to show us that there is a lot of wind
Tried to at least capture what Daytona 500 building looks like
These are people doing a tour of the Daytona International Speedway facilities. They charge $25 for a tour. Sharon and I are not interested at all in cars going in circles.
During the daytime, Steve & Sharon posing near the sign.
Later in the evening we took a few pictures of the signage
Steve's time is coming to an end and before he can get on a plane to return home, he had to take a COVID test. In the USA I was able to get some free Antigen tests which I gave him to use during this ZOOM call. It costs about $40 but was well worth it. I wish we had known about that when I was booking Katryna's test.
Steve is at the airport and departing at 0500 hrs.
When Steve left, Sharon was still trying to beat me
Sharon was also going in the pool a lot more. She was hesitant at the beginning since she wasn't sure about her shoulder and what she could accomplish. If she hurt herself more it would be painful. Sharon did well and went slowly and she said next year she'll go in the pool a lot more.
The end is coming and I'll have a glass of wine to celebrate the good times had and remember that I will return!!
Sharon always went for a walk whenever she could
With great sadness, we departed for our trip back to Canada
I guess you're wondering what I'm doing>??>? So was Sharon
We had supper at a place called Hollywood in Cortland, NY
Then we got home!
